February 15, 1781
THE CONNECTICUT JOURNAL, New Haven, Feb. 15, 1781  Close to half of the front page is taken up with a fine letter datelined Charlotte, N. Carolina, Dec. 5, 1780 praising the work of the provincials in the war effort in North Carolina.
Bits include: "...I hope that an impartial world will not loose sight of those striking marks of heroism displayed at Ramsour's on the 20th of June...at Packelet in the night of the 15th of July...at Coleson's, the mouth of Rockey river on the 21st of July...at Rocky Mount on the 23rd of July...at Hanging Rock on the 6th of August where General Sumpter commanded...at King's Mountain on the 7th of October where Col. Campbell commanded..." with much more.
Also noted is: "...The firmness of the people in Mecklenburg and Rowan counties when the enemy advanced to Charlotte evince that they possess the most genuine principles...His Lordship took post at Charlotte with amazing pomp...The people generally abandoned their habitations...His Lordship soon discovered that he was in an enemy's country...Charlotte is an agreeable village, but in a d---d rebellious country..." with more.
Page 2 has an interesting letter signed in type: Benedict Arnold which begins: "Having the honor to command a body of his Majesty's troops sent for the protection of his loyal subjects in this colony...". This is followed by over half a column headed: "Narrative of the movements of the enemy since our last."
Page 2 also has a letter from Petersburg which includes: "...Gen. Arnold obliged the inhabitants of Richmond to turn out all their rum, sugar, etc. into the street...".
Much more on the war as well including letters from Annapolis, Williamsburgh and yet another from Virginia mentioning Arnold.
There is also most of a column taken up with: "Proposals made to the Non-commissioned Officers & Soldiers of the Pennsylvania Line at Princeton concerning the soldiers' grievances (see for portions).
Additional war reports are on page 3 as well.
The back page is entirely taken up with ads including a Resolve from Congress.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, two folds with a small hole at the very center and minor loss at the right margin not affecting an type.
