April 15, 1861
THE NEW YORK HERALD, April 15, 1861.

* Abraham Lincoln declares war - Attack on Fort Sumter - Charleston SC and more
* Original Civil War era complete issue w/ MAP on cotton & rag paper   * The War Against Slavery, Abraham Lincoln's War, the 2nd War For Independence

This would be a nice, displayable issue on the beginning of the Civil War as the front page features a nice map headed:

* MAP OF CHARLESTON HARBOR

showing the Relative Positions of the Entrance, Stone Inlet, Morris and Sullivan Islands, Forts Sumter & Moultrie, Cummings Point Battery and the City."

Two-thirds of the first column are taken up with nice heads concerning the outbreak of war, including: "THE WAR" "Offensive War Measures of the Administration" "A WAR PROCLAMATION" "75,000 Men Ordered Out" "Preparations for the Defence of the National Capital" "The Great Free States Arming for the Conflict" "The Battle at Charleston" "Evacuation of Fort Sumter" " "The War Policy of the Government" "Important Speech of President Lincoln to the Virginia Commissioners" and more (see photos).

Of significance is the complete printing of: "The President's Proclamation" in which he essentially declares a state of war and calls for 75,000 volunteers for 3 months' service (see photos) signed by him in type: Abraham Lincoln.

Eight pgs., very slight damp stain at the very top otherwise in great condition.
