Near the beginning of the issue is a very early & terrific letter from James Oglethorpe, headed: "Extract of Mr. Oglethorpe's Letter to the Trustees for Establishing the Colony of Georgia, dated from the Camp at Savannah, Feb. 10, 1732-3." in which he describes the area where he would create the town of Savannah, including : "...I fix'd upon a healthy situation about ten miles from the sea. The river here forms a half moon...banks are abvout 40 foot high...the plain high ground extends into the country five or six miles...Upon the river side in the centre of this plain I have laid out the town over gainst it is an island of very rich land...the river is pretty wide...I marked out the town & Common...and the first house was begun yesterday in the afternoon..." & more, signed in type: J. Oglethorpe. A truly terrific item on the founding of Savannah, Georgia! (see photos).
