NEW YORK DAILY TRIBUNE, Feb. 7, 1862 The most noteworthy item is found on page 3 under the heading, "LAW INTELLIGENCE," which is provides President Lincoln's warrant refusing to commute Captain Nathaniel Gordon's sentence - although he did provide a few weeks of respite. See images for details. Of interest is also the front page, somewhat inconspicuous notice, beginning: "A Lecture will be delivered by Ralph Waldo Emerson upon 'American Civilization...," with a few other details (see photo). Page 3 contains an article headed: "From Utah--Movement for Admission as a State". There are also various Civil War reports on the inside pages as well.
Complete in 8 pages, very nice condition.
Note: On February 21, 1862, Nathaniel Gordon became the only slave trader in the history of the United States to be tried, convicted, and executed for being engaged in the Slave Trade."
