PENNSYLVANIA EVENING POST, Philadelphia, Oct. 3, 1775 The photos show the front page first paragraph of a detailed letter about the Battle of Bunker Hill of over 3 months prior, submitted by Lieutenant General Gage to the Earl of Dartmouth. The letter provides many details about this engagement which resulted in a British victory as revealed in a later paragraph: "The rebels were then forced from other strong holds, and pursued till they were drove clear off the peninsula....This action has shewn the superiority of the Kings troops, who, under every disadvantage, attacked and defeated above three times their own number, strongly posted and covered by breast-works....the valour of the British officers and soldiers...was at no time more conspicuous than in this action." The letter is signed in type: THOMAS GAGE. There is also a list of the killed and wounded which concludes on pg. 2.
On pg. 3 under "Williamsburg" is a report stating: "Thursday last arrived here PATRICK HENRY, Esq: Commander in Chief of the Virginia Forces..."
Great to have this Bunker Hill report on the ftpg., plus the mention of Patrick Henry, which is rather uncommon, in the same issue.
Quarto-size, 4 pgs., has a few traces of foxing, otherwise in very good condition.
