BAY STATE DEMOCRAT, Boston, February 3, 1840 A ftpg. business ad for "Patent Balances And Scales" gives details about the business. Includes two small woodcuts of scales and one of a balance. Fold creases, o/w generally good.

THE EMANCIPATOR, Boston, 1846 As the title would suggest, this is an anti-slavery newspaper from before the Civil War. Never bound nor trimmed, some minor edge wear and some light browning. Complete in 4 pages.

SPIRIT OF THE TIMES, New York, Jan. 12, 1856  Described in the masthead as "A Chronicle of the Turf, Field Sports, Literature and the Stage", this issue also has "The Carrier's Address To The Patrons Of The New York "Spirit Of The Times." A few traces of foxing, otherwise in nice condition.

BOSTON COMMERCIAL GAZETTE, Sept. 7, 1818 Pg. 2 has a brief item: "Falls of Niagara" noting: "The Projection called Table Rock, has...fallen in....the rock broke in pieces...and disclosed a great number of crystalline substances...".  Also word that the "...elegant steam-boat Walk-in-the-Water will be ready for sailing this week...".

NEW YORK HERALD, April 14, 1859  Page 7 has a report: "The Great Billiard Match at Detroit" which gives brief updates of the match starting with one from 2:30 a.m. showing Michael Phelan ahead. A dispatch from 4:45 a.m. shows John Seerieter in the lead with mention that the excitement is at fever heat. It closes with a dispatch from 5:30 a.m. stating: "The great billiard match ...
