background: Marguerite Clark was a titan of early Hollywood whose legacy was nearly erased by a 1920s vault fire that destroyed the negatives of her entire Paramount filmography. Standing just 4'10", she parlayed her petite stature into a specialized "ingenue" persona, frequently playing characters half her actual age and commanding a massive salary of $12,500 per week at the height of her 1910s fame. Despite being one of the few actresses to genuinely challenge Mary Pickford's box-office dominance, she is largely remembered today as the "Lost Star," with only five of her 40 feature films known to survive in their entirety. Her most enduring contribution remains the 1916 live-action Snow White, which was rediscovered in a Dutch archive in 1992; the film’s whimsical aesthetic and Clark's performance famously served as the primary inspiration for a young Walt Disney when he set out to create his own animated version decades later.
