background: In the interview with The London Mail on August 5, 1934, Adolf Hitler sought to present himself as a reasonable and peaceful leader, keen on rebuilding Germany’s strength and securing its future. He expressed dissatisfaction with the Treaty of Versailles, which he viewed as an unjust imposition on Germany following World War I, and reiterated his desire for a revision of the international order, but emphasized that Germany sought no war with Britain or other European powers. Hitler’s rhetoric centered on the idea of a unified "national community" and the Führer principle, advocating for a strong, authoritarian state where his leadership was seen as essential to restoring Germany to greatness. He justified the recent purge of the SA leadership, known as the Night of the Long Knives, by claiming it was necessary to prevent internal disorder, portraying himself as a defender of the state and German society. Although he did not directly address anti-Semitism in the interview, his ideological beliefs—rooted in racial purity and the superiority of the Aryan race—were already central to the Nazi agenda. The interview was a calculated effort to shape his image on the world stage, presenting a facade of rationality and diplomatic intention, while masking the regime’s aggressive, expansionist aims and the growing tyranny that would soon engulf Europe.
