background: The Six-Day War, fought from June 5 to June 10, 1967, was a brief but pivotal conflict between Israel and the neighboring Arab states of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Tensions had been rising due to border skirmishes, Egypt’s blockade of the Straits of Tiran, and the mobilization of Arab armies. Israel launched a preemptive air strike that destroyed most of the Egyptian Air Force on the first day, giving Israel air superiority. Over the next six days, Israeli forces captured the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza Strip from Egypt, the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Golan Heights from Syria. The war drastically reshaped the region’s political landscape, heightened Arab-Israeli animosities, and set the stage for ongoing territorial disputes and peace negotiations that continue to influence Middle Eastern politics today.
