Item # 724198

September 19, 1945

THE DETROIT FREE PRESS, Sept. 19, 1945

* Bergen-Belsen concentration camp
* Nazi death factory horrors revealed
* Eyewitness accounts - Jewish Holocaust

The top of page 4 has a one column heading: "Briton Tells of Nazi Evils at Belsen" (see images) Unfortunately a somewhat brief report here.
Complete in 20 pages, light toning and a little wear at the margins, generally nice.

AI notes: Glyn Hughes, a British soldier who was part of the 11th Armoured Division, was one of the first to witness the horrors of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp after its liberation in April 1945. His vivid and haunting account of the camp, written later, reflects the unimaginable suffering that he and his comrades encountered.
Belsen, located in northern Germany, was one of the worst Nazi concentration camps, where thousands of prisoners, mostly Jews, had perished from starvation, disease, and mistreatment. By the time the Allies arrived, the camp was in a state of utter devastation.
