background: On January 17, 1934, Richard E. Byrd, the pioneering American explorer, arrived at Little America, his Antarctic base established during his second expedition to the continent. Byrd had previously flown over the South Pole in 1929, and his 1934 expedition aimed to deepen scientific understanding of Antarctica. Little America was strategically positioned along the coast of the Ross Sea and became the center of Byrd's operations, facilitating crucial research in meteorology, geology, and biology. Byrd’s team spent months in harsh conditions, conducting experiments and mapping uncharted territories. This mission not only advanced the scientific knowledge of Antarctica but also marked a significant achievement in polar exploration.
