background: Tiger Flowers won the world middleweight boxing championship on February 26, 1926, when he defeated the legendary Harry Greb by a hard-fought 15-round decision at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Flowers, a tough and intelligent fighter from Georgia, used disciplined defense and steady counterpunching to blunt Greb’s relentless, swarming style, earning the nod from the judges after a grueling bout. With the victory, Flowers became the first African American to hold the world middleweight title, a landmark achievement in boxing history during an era of deep racial barriers. He later defended the title successfully before losing it to Mickey Walker in 1927.
