background: On September 7, 1939, just a week after Germany invaded Poland on September 1, Nazi forces were closing in on Warsaw, the Polish capital. The German army employed Blitzkrieg tactics, combining fast-moving infantry, tanks, and air support, which quickly overwhelmed Polish defenses. By this point, Warsaw was under increasing pressure from German attacks, with surrounding areas falling rapidly. The city faced heavy artillery bombardment and air raids, causing civilian panic and significant disruption. Despite valiant Polish resistance, the situation in Warsaw was becoming dire, setting the stage for the siege of Warsaw, which would formally begin on September 8 and last until September 28, 1939, when the city ultimately surrendered.
