Giants win game 4 in 1937 World Series...

Item # 719213

October 09, 1937

NEW YORK WORLD-TELEGRAM, Oct. 9, 1937

* New York Yankees vs. Giants
* World Series MLB Baseball (game 4)
* Lou Gehrig & Joe DiMaggio era

The front page has a terrific banner headline: "GIANTS WIN FOURTH GAME" with subheads, box scores, scoreboard above the masthead and inning by inning coverage. Great for display. More in the sport's section and nice to have in this NYC publication.
Complete with all 44 pages, light toning and minor wear at the margins, small library stamp within the masthead, small binding holes along the spine, generally nice.

history notes: In Game 4 of the 1937 World Series, played on October 9 at the Polo Grounds, the New York Giants scored their only victory of the five-game series, defeating the New York Yankees 7–3. The Giants surged in the second inning, scoring six runs thanks to timely hitting from Dick Bartell, Jo-Jo Moore, and Hank Leiber, while errors by the Yankees contributed to the scoring. Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and one walk with three strikeouts, marking his final World Series appearance. The Yankees had taken an early lead in the first inning on a Red Rolfe triple and Joe DiMaggio sacrifice fly and added another run in the third due to Giants’ miscues, with Lou Gehrig hitting a ninth-inning home run, but it was not enough to overcome the Giants’ dominant second-inning rally. Despite this win, the Giants could not capitalize further, and the Yankees clinched the championship in Game 5.
