AI notes: The 1934 Indianapolis 500, held on May 30, was won by “Wild Bill” Cummings, who drove a Miller 8-cylinder race car. Cummings secured the pole position with a qualifying speed of about 120.7 mph and led much of the race, finishing with an average speed of approximately 104 mph. Known for his aggressive driving style, Cummings claimed his only Indy 500 victory during an era marked by the Great Depression, which affected attendance and sponsorships but did not diminish the race’s prestige. The event also showcased technological advancements in race cars and safety features of the time.
