AI notes: On March 31, 1933, the Nazi regime in Germany announced a nationwide boycott of Jewish businesses, set to begin the next day, April 1, 1933. This was one of the first major acts of anti-Jewish persecution after Adolf Hitler became Chancellor in January 1933. The boycott, organized by Joseph Goebbels, aimed to intimidate and economically isolate Jews by urging Germans not to shop at Jewish-owned stores, use Jewish doctors or lawyers, or do business with Jews in general. Nazi Stormtroopers (SA) were stationed outside Jewish establishments, often marking them with antisemitic slogans or the Star of David. Although the boycott lasted only one day officially, it marked the start of a broader and escalating campaign of discrimination, exclusion, and violence against Jews in Nazi Germany.
