AI notes: On May 30, 1947, Eastern Air Lines Flight 605, a Douglas C-54B Skymaster en route from Newark to Miami, crashed near Port Deposit, Maryland, killing all 53 people on board. The flight was cruising at 4,000 feet when it suddenly went into a steep dive and crashed into a wooded area near Bainbridge without sending a distress call. The Civil Aeronautics Board investigation found no evidence of mechanical failure or weather issues, and the cause was officially listed as a “sudden loss of control for reasons unknown.” At the time, it was the deadliest commercial airline disaster in U.S. history, and a memorial now stands near the crash site on Principio Road.
