Note: Frank Hawks, a renowned American aviator, died in a plane crash in 1938. He was famous during the 1920s and 1930s for setting multiple aviation speed records and promoting air travel across the United States.
He was killed in a plane crash while demonstrating a new type of aircraft, the Gwinn Aircar, in East Aurora, New York.
The aircraft struck a tree stump during an attempted landing in a field. The crash killed Hawks and seriously injured his passenger.
Despite his tragic death, Hawks left behind a significant legacy as a pioneering figure in aviation, known for popularizing flight and advancing aviation safety and innovation.
