Special "2-issue" set... A Soviet-American title - the prototype issue, and the first "regular" issue...
Item # 714734 WE/Mbi "The First Independent Soviet-American Newspaper", July 4, 1990 and the Vol. 1, #1 issue of March, 1992 This is a curious pair of issues including the prototype edition and the first "regular" edition. It was an outgrowth of the era of the thawing of relations between the United States & the Soviet Union and just before the collapse of the latter.
A box on the front page of the prototype: "Who We Are" notes in part: "WE/Mbl is the first independent English-Russian language newspaper. It is a product of a team effort by editors for the Hearst Corp. & Izvestia. Russian & English versions of the paper will contain the same stores & features & be mirror images of each other...Our goal is to inform, stimulate & entertain. The editors of WI/Mbl hope the response to this pilot issue will lead to regular weekly publications in English & Russian early in 1991."
The volume 1, number 1 issue would appear in March, 1992 and is included, making for a nice pair of the prototype edition and the first "regular" issue. We are not aware of this newspaper existing much beyond the first issue.
Both issues are complete in 16 pages, great condition.
Note: In half a century, we have only come across one March, 1991 issue.
