On the Jay Treaty... Toasts to America & Washington...
Item # 711199
October 28, 1795
THE ORACLE OF THE DAY, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Oct. 28, 1795
* Rare 18th century American publication
This is a quite scarce 18th century American title as it existed only until 1799 and rarely comes on the market. We suspect the circulation was somewhat limited.
Inside has various discussions concerning the controversial Jay Treaty which was recently enacted with England. The front page has a report from Concord, New Hampshire, concerning a military event at which several toasts were made, including: "America--May the virtues of her Sons increase with that of her wealth. The Federal Constitution--May the true Patriots of our country ever support it. PRESIDENT WASHINGTON--Long may he preside & his judgment shine..." with more.
Four pages, close-trimmed at the top of page 2 does not affect any mentioned content, otherwise good condition.
