On the 1929 stock market crash, in the New York Times...

Item # 710341

November 03, 1929

THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, November 3, 1929

* The great stock market crash of 1929
* The great depression beginning
* Best title to have in (NYC)

The stock market crash of 1929 did much to define America for the next decade, resulting in the Great Depression and all the trauma relating to it. It seemed common for many newspapers to put a positive spin on the on-going tragedy, so front page reports often conflicted with the reality of the time.
Given that the stock exchange is in New York City, the "Times" remains one of the most desired of all newspapers on the crash.
The top of the front page has a two column headline: "HUGE BUSINESS IN STOCKS READY FOR MONDAY OPENING; WALL STREET AT WORK TODAY" with subheads: "Most Orders Are to buy" "Some Fear a Rush That May Further Overtax Exchange Machinery" "Loans Down $2,440,000,000" "Greatest Month's Decrease Ever Recorded Shown by Exchange Figures" "Like A Weekday In Street" and a bit more. And the many pages within provide a fascinating glimpse of life during those tumultuous weeks.
First section only with 30 pages, a few cutouts throughout including one on the front page (see image), light toning and a little margin wear, irregular along the spine, sold as is.
