THE DETROIT FREE PRESS, Sept. 24, 1934

* Detroit Lions very 1st football game
* NFL - National Football League
* In a Detroit publication (very rare)

The front page of the sport's section (pg. 13) has a four column heading: "Lions Defeat Giants in Opener, 9-0" with subheads and related photo. (see images) Also includes stats and lineups. First report coverage continues on page 20 with lineups. Some spine wear causes some text loss here. A related photo is at the top of page 18. Great to have this this Detroit publication.  I suspect this to be an extremely rare item because their was really no reason to save it at the time.
Twenty pages, some heavy margin wear and chipping, especially along the right margin but doesn't affect the Lions reporting, should be handled with care.

wikipedia notes: The 1934 Detroit Lions season was the fifth in franchise history and the first in Detroit; the franchise had previously played as the Portsmouth Spartans in Portsmouth, Ohio, a city with a population of approximately 40,000. Under head coach Potsy Clark, the Lions won their first ten games (of which the first seven were shutouts) then lost three straight in an eight-day span to end the season at 10–3. They finished in second place in the NFL Western Division, three games behind the undefeated Chicago Bears.
