Much news from the "New World"...
Item # 704975
January 31, 1666
THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, Jan. 31, 1666 It's rare to find American mention in such early dated newspapers but this issue has more than half of the back page devoted to reports from the Caribbean & South America (or so it would seem, as places have archaic names & archaic spellings). Mention is made of Barbadoes and sugar & tobacco from that island; a letter which: "...give us this account of the success of the English in those parts of America..." which would seem to be in South America.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, 7 by 11 inches, very nice condition.
A very early issue of this famous newspaper, the oldest continually published English language newspaper in the world, having begun just a year earlier in 1665 & is still publishing today.
