Article signed by Robert Fulton... Ratification of the Jay Treaty...



Item # 703642 GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, February, 1796  Among the articles of interest within are the conclusion of: "On the Utility of Small Canals" signed in type by: Robert Fulton; "Inoculation the Cause of the Great Increase of Population" "On the Migration of Swallows" "Parliamentary Proceedings of Lords & Commons in 1795-6" and more.
Near the back is "Intelligence of Importance from the London Gazette" which includes mention of ratification of the Jay Treaty beginning: "The treaty of commerce between his Majesty & the United States of America having been mutually ratified..." (see). And another item notes: "The magnificent city of Washington in America has already 7000 houses built in a very handsome style; and the continue building in a very rapid manner."
Both full page plates called for are present.
Complete in 88 pages, full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 by 8 inches, very nice condition.

A very nice magazine from the late 18th century with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
