September 24, 1779

THE LONDON GAZETTE EXTRAORDINARY, England, Sept. 24, 1779  This "Extraordinary" was published outside the normal printing schedule for the London Gazette when news was received which warranted a special edition before the next scheduled publication date.
The entire front page is a letter signed by: Geo. Collier concerning the Penobscot Expedition which resulted in the destruction of the Mass. naval force near Castine, Maine. The coverage actually carries over to take all of pages 2, 3 & 4 as well, which is typical of an "Extraordinary" issue. No advertisements.
Four pages, 7 1/4 by 11 1/2 inches, partial red tax stamp on the front page, small posting hole near the top affects a few words.
