June 25, 1791

GAZETTE OF THE UNITED STATES, Philadelphia, June 25, 1791  Most of the front page is taken up with a long discourse concerning Thomas Paine's thoughts on European government, signed: Publicola (pseudonym of John Adams).
Page 2 has an item reading in part: "Yesterday M. de la Fayette resigned his situation, in consequence of which the sentry box at his door was immediately removed...it is feared that this resignation will be followed by others..." with more. A note from "London" begins: "We cannot for a moment hesitate in saying that the trade for slaves to Africa ought to be abolished. It is disgraceful to us as men & as Britons..." and a page 3 item under the heading "Slave Trade" notes: "Mr. Wilberforce, in the House of Commons...made the following motion...".
Page 3 has a report concerning President George Washington visiting the Southern states, and a note concerning the "Slave Trade", and that the will of John Wesley notes almost all of his property goes to charity.
The back page has a "War Department" notice, signed: H. Knox, Secretary of War, concerning pensions for injured Revolutionary War prisoners.
Four pages, very nice condition.
