February 17, 1800

CLAYPOOLE'S AMERICAN DAILY ADVERTISER, Philadelphia, Feb. 17, 1800  The entire front page and nearly the entire page 2 are taken up with: "The WILL Of Gen. George Washington" which begins: "I, George Washington, of Mount Vernon, a citizen of the United States, and lately President of the same, DO make, ordain, and declare this instrument et, which is written with m own hand... to be my last WILL and TESTAMENT, revolting all others...".
The photos show only portions of the lengthy document, which is accompanied by various addendums as to the proper details, and various "Notes", finally being signed by him in type: GEORGE WASHINGTON, Mount Vernon, 9th July, 1799.
We believe this to be the first we have offered this notable document in many years.
Court pages, small binding slits at the blank spine, nice condition.

Item from Catalog 354 (released for May, 2025)
