AI notes: THE DOMESTICK INTELLIGENCE: Or NEWS both from CITY AND COUNTRY was an early English newspaper that circulated in the late 17th century, during the formative years of print journalism in Britain. Published in London, it was among the numerous titles that emerged after the lapse of strict government censorship in the 1670s and 1680s, offering readers a mix of reports from the capital and dispatches from towns and counties across England. Its contents typically included parliamentary debates, court proceedings, notable crimes, local happenings, and foreign intelligence, giving it broad appeal to merchants, landowners, and politically engaged readers. Like many newsbooks of its time, it was printed in a modest folio or quarto format, often appearing weekly, and reflected the evolving demand for timely information in an age of increasing literacy and political unrest. Today, it stands as a representative example of Restoration-era journalism, bridging the older newsbook tradition with the more modern newspaper form that would dominate the 18th century.
