Five issue lot from before the Revolutionary War...

Item # 699219

August 14, 1759

(5) THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, A group of five issues dated March 2, 1758; Aug. 14, 1759; Feb. 19, 1760; March 17, 1763; and Feb. 27, 1768. A nice little group lot providing a flavor of life in England from the period when tensions were growing with its American colonies.
Each issue is complete in 8 pages, 8 by 11 inches, perhaps minor rubbing & foxing to some, generally in good condition.

AI notes: Pre-Revolutionary London Chronicle issues were printed on high-quality rag paper made from cotton and linen fibers, which is far more durable than later acidic wood-pulp paper. Because of this, surviving copies can be in remarkably good condition even after more than 250 years, with crisp pages and minimal brittleness. Nevertheless, rarity is still high because relatively few issues from the 1757–1775 period survived in complete form, especially those covering major American colonial events like the Stamp Act, Boston Tea Party, or early revolutionary debates. Copies in excellent condition, with intact pages, original margins, and clear type, are particularly prized by collectors and can command premium prices, especially if they report on historically significant events. While the sturdy rag paper increases the likelihood of survival, issues from this era remain uncommon, and full runs or bound volumes are extremely rare, usually found only in institutional archives or elite private collections.
