Columbia wins 1899 America's Cup...

Item # 699171

October 21, 1899

NEW YORK TRIBUNE, Oct. 21, 1899

* Columbia (1899 yacht) vs. Shamrock - yachting
* America's Cup racing win at New York City Harbor

The top of the front page has a one column heading: "STILL AMERICA'S CUP" with subheads that include: "The Columbia Defends The Trophy In A Fine Race" and more. (see image) Very lengthy first report coverage continues on page 2 taking up a total of  6 full columns of text. Nice to have from this New York City publication, where this event took place (New York Harbor). Surprisingly this issue is in good condition being from the "wood pulp" era.
Complete with 8 pages, light toning, nice condition. Still should be handled with care.

wikipedia notes: The 1899 America's Cup was the 10th challenge for the Cup. It took place in the New York City harbor and consisted of a best of five series of races between the defender, Columbia, entered by the New York Yacht Club, and Sir Thomas Lipton's Shamrock, representing the Royal Ulster Yacht Club. Columbia won all three races against Shamrock.

Guglielmo Marconi transmitted the event on radio from New York Harbor, making the cup perhaps the first sports broadcasting.
