1861 unique Civil War era set...

Item # 698150 This is a unique three-issue set of authentic Civil War newspapers from the 1st year of the war.  Included are one each of the following:

* The New York Herald
* Harper's Weekly Illustrated
* The Circular

The New York Herald was known for excellent war reporting, the Harper's Weekly contains outstanding Civil War related prints (many suitable for framing), and The Circular (Oneida, NY) was a well-established commune newspaper, providing solid reporting with a religious twist.

Viewed/read together, this unique set provides an excellent snap-shot of this incredible and formative period in American history.  Included are several war-themed prints, news/battle reports, and period advertising.

The issues are complete and are in overall good condition.  Issues from this period have imperfections such as occasional foxing, edge tears, etc., but are not brittle due to the period use of paper with a high linen content called "rag paper".  While each set sent is unique (no two are exactly the same), the images show the look and condition of the set you will receive.  Actual dates (reporting and prints) will vary, but all issues will be authentic and will be dated in 1861, sometime after the start of the war.

Suggestion:  Additional sets are available for each year of the war (1861, 1862, 1863, 1864, and 1865).  All 5 sets would provide a one-of-a-kind collection covering the entire war period.
