Page 2 has a very early report: "From California" which is quite historic on the creation of the state of California: "The Proclamation of Commodore Stockton, the governor of California" in which he makes the very significant statement: "...do hereby make known to all men that, having by right of conquest taken possession of that territory known by the name of Upper and Lower California, O do now declare it to be a Territory of the United States, under the name of the Territory of California..." with much more. This was the creation of the Territory of California.
