Item # 697648

September 07, 1949

NEW YORK TIMES, Sept. 7, 1949

* Howard Unruh's Camden, New Jersey shooting spree
* "Walk of Death" (13 killed) by
WWII veteran
* Still the deadliest in NJ history
* Journalist Meyer Berger's Pulitzer Prize article

The front page has a 3 line, 1 column headline: "Veteran Kills 12 In Mad Rampage On Camden Street", with subheads: "Shoots 4 Others in Revenge for Derogatory Remarks About His Character", "Boy, 2, Among the Slain", & more. This is an incredibly detailed report which won journalist Meyer Berger a Pulitzer Prize for Journalism. This report and additional coverage are found on page 3 and include multiple photos. At the time this was considered the worst single-day mass murder in U.S. History, and remains the worst in the state of New Jersey.

Complete in 60 pages, left spine shows evidence of having once been bound in a library volume, overall in very nice condition.
