THE GLOCESTER JOURNAL, England, May 9, 1768 

* John Wilkes jailed - radical
* Pre Revolutionary War


(currently spelled Gloucester). Page 2 has an impassioned letter signed in type by the radical journalist & politician John Wilkes. It begins: "In support of the liberties of this country, against the arbitrary rule of ministers, I was before committed to the TOWER and am now sentenced to this PRISON..." with much more.
During the Revolutionary War Wilkes supported the American cause.
Four pages, a very nice & decorative masthead featuring engravings on either side, full red tax stamp on the front page, nice condition.
