December 29, 1866
HARPER'S WEEKLY, New York, Dec. 29, 1866
* Santa Claus
* Thomas Nast
* Christmas
The front page has a lengthy poem with a related print titled: "The Setter's Christmas Eve".
Inside contains a full page: "Hauling Home the Christmas Boughs"; halfpg: "Scene of the Holy Nativity, Bethlehem" & "The Wise Men Following the Star in the East". Also: a halfpg: "John Surratt" & Wreck of the Steamship 'Scotland' Bound for Liverpool, off Sandy Hook".
But the prime feature is the great Thomas Nast, tipped-in (no binding holes) doublepage centerfold: "Santa Claus & His Works" which includes over a dozen vignettes, eight of which show Santa Claus. The central print is nice, showing Santa Claus filling stockings by a fireplace.
Very displayable and great to have 8 Nast Santa Claus images in one print.
Sixteen pages, small nick from the blank margin affecting nothing, very nice condition.
