A wealth of War of 1812 reporting...

Item # 695211

July 20, 1813

THE WAR, New York, July 20, 1813

* Creek Indian Nation
* General Robert B. Taylor
* Fort Meigs - Perrysburg, Ohio

This is a great issue just filled with war content. The front page is taken up with reports headed: "Copy of a letter from Gen. Taylor to the Secretary of War" datelined from Norfolk; plus "Copy of Col. Beatty's Report to Gen. Taylor" datelined from Craney Island; plus another "Letter from Com. Lewis to the Sec. of the Navy" which begins: "I have the pleasure to inform you of the capture of the British sloop tender Eagle..." with further details.
Also: "Commotion Among The Indians" which begins: "The Creek Indians at present exhibit a curious & interesting spectacle being at war with each other..." with more. Plus two more letters on the front page as well.
Pages 2 & 3 are filled with war reports also, with items headed "From the North-West" "Latest News From Fort Meigs" "Outrages At Hampton!" "Prospect of a General Peace" "Alarm At Washington" "Latest From the Frontiers" "Naval Action" "Naval & Marine Memoranda", plus still more on the back page with items headed: "Resignations In The Army" "Lesson for Soldiers" "Petition of Prisoners" and "From New London".
Four pages, 9 1/4 by 11 1/2 inches, very nice condition.

An intriguing newspaper, as it existed for the sole purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title) with no advertisements. It began publication shortly after the war started, and when the war ended so did this newspaper.
