* Capital of the Confederacy
Not just a Confederate newspaper, but one from the capital of the Confederacy.
There is much war reporting here, from the Confederate perspective, including front page items headed: "Movements Of The Enemy" "City Intelligence" "Message Of The Governor" which takes most of the page and has many subheads including: "Act Concerning Slaves for Work on Fortifications", "Virginia Military Institute" & "William & Mary College and more. The governor's report carries over to the back page as well.
The back page has: "Lincoln's Message In England--Opinions of the English Press" on Abraham Lincoln's annual state-of-the-union address. The British press is critical of Lincoln, not surprising as the British supported the Confederacy during the Civil War in part to protect their valuable source of cotton.
Page two also has a nice column-long editorial, plus an article headed: "Telegraphic News--Interesting Foreign & Northern Intelligence".
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, one very small hole near the bottom, a bit close-trimmed at the bottom 4 inches of the spine affects some words on page 1 but nothing on the back page, some very light staining or foxing, otherwise in nice condition.
