Great on the French & Indian War... Death from a cricket ball...
Item # 693577
June 12, 1760
THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, June 12, 1760 Page 6 begins with a report headed: "America" being an: "Extract of a Letter from an Officer in Colonel Montgomery's Regiment, dated from Claveraick on Hudson's River" which provides the latest news on the French & Indian War.
A few bits not: "...we marched from Crown Point after making our latest fort there reenable, our regiment was ordered to cantonments on Hudson's River below Albany...I hope we shall soon move, with the rest of the army, to finish the reductio of Canada..." with more.
Of curious interest is a brief report of a man killed by a cricket ball: "Last week as an elderly man was standing to see a cricket match on the Dicker in this county, the ball was struck against his head, which knocked him down and killed him on the spot."
Could this be the earliest report of a death at a cricket match? Quick research notes that the earlier death while playing cricket seems to be 1764.
Eight pages, 8 by 10 3/4 inches, some foxing to the front page only, very nice condition.
