The very last article on the front page is: "More Gold" noting in part: "...that Captain Joseph Welden has remitted to his family $3,000 in California gold...Capt. Welden sailed from this port for California in December...and since her arrival...has earned about $1,000 per month in carrying passengers & freight on the Sacramento river...".
Page 3 has an article: "A Month Later from California--$570,000 in Gold Dust" with various items relating to the Gold Rush, and the establishment of a government in California, and other California reports.
Also on page 3 is a detailed letter datelined: "With of the Great Salt Lake" which is a wonderful account of a person in a wagon train from the East, across the country to California, and includes some mention of the creation of the new Mormon city: "...The 24th of the present month will be the second anniversary of the arrival of the Mormon pioneers in this valley...few months later another band arrived who built a fort....they commenced the city. It is laid out in blocks, containing 10 acres each, and each block is subdivided into 8 lots. There are already 224 blocks...the streets are 8 rods wide. Nearly 1000 adobe houses have been built and the whole city nearly 2 miles square has the appearance of a garden..." with much more on the details of the newly-created Salt Lake City.
Four pages, large folio size, never bound nor trimmed with several creases, good condition. The folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
