June 14, 1856
STATE GAZETTE, "Seat of Government" Austin, Texas, June 14, 1856 We rarely are able to offer newspapers from Texas from before the Civil War. This is one.
Inside has content concerning the Books/Sumner affair, where Brooks attacked Sumner over comments concerning the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Also: "Democracy of Lamar" "Nicaragua--Cheering News!" "Texas Western Railroad" and other items, much of it political.
Four pages, nice engraving in the masthead, slightly irregular at the blank spine margin, nice condition.
Category: Pre-Civil War
