BALLOU'S PICTORIAL, Boston, Nov. 7, 1857
* American illustrator Winslow Homer
* Very early illustration in a periodical
Winslow Homer prints are very desirable, and among the more difficult periodical titles in which to find Homer prints is this one as it rarely comes on the collector market from the Homer era.
Here is one such issue with a Winslow Homer print on the front page titled: "Boston Evening Street Scene, at the Corner of Court & Brattle Streets". This print is unusual as it is signed "Homer" at the bottom. Also of interest is the front page article titled: "Boston Evening Street Scene" which mentions Winslow Homer, with the text beginning: "Mr. Homer has here drawn for us a spirited & graphic picture sketched at the corner of Brattle and Court Streets...".
Other prints within include: "U.S. Steam Frigate Wabash" "Ellis's Island, from Bedloe's, New York" "The Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina" "Bedloe's Island, New York Harbor" which is where the Statue of Liberty would later be erected.
Sixteen pages, good condition.
