* Sputnik 1 in orbit - success
* World's 1st orbiting artificial satellite
* Space race begins


A report on the space race, with a two line banner head reading: "PART OF ROCKET TRAILING 'MOON' " with related subheads including: "Rocket Nose Trailing Moon Through Space" "Sputnik Is A Fellow Traveler" and more.
The Sputnik launch on October 4 shocked the American scientific community and sufficiently scared the Americans into an all-out space race. There was great fear at the time of Soviet dominance of space and the potential use of satellites for military purposes.
Complete in 38 pages with both sections, good condition.
