All columns on all 4 pages are black-bordered for the death of President James Garfield.
The front page has column heads: "THE NATION BEREAVED" "James A. Garfield Passes Away" "Through True Patriotism, Devotion to Duty, and High Moral Worth, He Reaches the Acme of Greatness to Die at the Hand of the Assassin" with more, and various subheads. Considerable detail in the report which takes nearly 3 columns.
Page 2 begins with a nice editorial on Garfield: "The Honored Dead" with other related reports on pages 2 and 3.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, the top half has various wear with some small holes (archivally repaired) which do causes loss to some words, some foxing, wear at the margins & folds.
