NEW YORK TIMES, July 27, 1865  Most of the front page is taken up with: "YALE COLLEGE" "Novel Episode in Commencement Festivities" "A Day Devoted to the Honor of Yale's Patriotic Sons" "The Boys Come Marching Home--Their Appearance" "The Procession & the Address of Rev. Dr. Bushnell" with more.
Some years later a proper memorial was created at Yale which included a grouping of Northern & Southern names together on Yale's walls, the university aiming to pay tribute to the heroism of both sides.
The back page has: “Out-Door Sports” is: “Base Ball” “Keystone Vs. Eckford--An Exciting Game At Brooklyn.” The summary of this game begins: “Truly is base ball (baseball) an uncertain game, and seldom has there been a more striking illustration of the fact than was afforded in the contest...which took place on the Union Ball Grounds, Brooklyn, yesterday, the result being the success of the Keystones by a score of 18-16...” More about this game, plus the box score.
