THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, September, 1844
* Joseph & Hyrum Smith murders
* Mormons - Mormonism founder
* Carthage, Illinois jail
* Lynch mob killing
Near the back under "Foreign News" is a report from the "United States" noting: "Joseph and Hiram Smith, the Mormon prophets, were murdered in June last, at Carthage in Illinois, by a mob of 60 or 70 persons."
Keep in mind that 7 Mormon missionaries arrived in Liverpool in 1837 and many Britons were converted within a few years, hence the interest in this British magazine in reporting the event. There are currently about 200,000 Mormons in the United Kingdom.
