THE DAILY DELTA, New Orleans, Feb. 20, 1862 Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are very difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city, it surrendering without a fight. So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.
Front page heads include: "Details of the Operations At Fort Donelson" "Defense of the Cities & Towns of Virginia" "An English Divine on Yankees" "General Tilghman" "The Wise Legion" "The Invasion of Mexico" and a few smaller items, including a fascinating article: "Capture of A Yankee in Cow's Clothing".
Page 2 has many nice one column war heads including: "Several Thousand Confederates Taken at Fort Donelson" "President's Davis's Dispatch" "Nashville to be Held at All Hazards" "Defeat of the Enemy at Boston Mountain, Ark." "Gen. McCulloch's Proclamation" "Columbus will not be Abandoned" & more.
Four pages, lightly browned throughout, bit irregular at the spine margin, old tape mends in the upper right margin of pg. 3, generally very nice.
