December 26, 1860

NEW YORK HERALD, Dec. 26, 1860

* Pre Civil War tensions
* South Carolina secession

Among the front page column heads are: "Proceedings of the Charleston Convention" "The Address of South Carolina to the Slaveholding States" "South Carolina's "Declaration of Independence" "Address of the Mississippi Commissioner to the George Assembly".
Related text carries over to take almost all of page 2 & much of page 3 with: "The Sovereignty of South Carolina" and the: "Declaration of Independence of South Carolina, done in Convention, Dec. 24, 1860", and a historic item: "Secession Accomplished--South Carolina Independent" taken from the "South Carolinian" newspaper of Dec. 21.
This report begins: "Yesterday the peace & quite of our city was disturbed by the ringing of the city bell & the firing of artillery..." with much more. South Carolina was the first state to leave the Union, which it did in Dec. 20.
A great issue on the catalyzing moment which triggered the Civil War.
Eight pages, nice condition.
