The front page begins witeh nice reporting on Lincoln's suspension of the writ of Habeas Corpus.
First column heads note: "Habeas Corpus Suspended" "The President's Proclamation" "The Writ Denied to Prisoners of War, Spies, Aiders of the Rebellion, and Men in the Land and Sea Service of the United States" "It is Also Denied to Enrolled, Drafted, Enlisted or Mustered Men and to Deserters" "Also to Those who Resist the Draft, or do Any Other Act Against the Military and Naval Service".
The document is printed in full, signed in type: Abraham Lincoln.
Habeas Corpus is a court order demanding that a public official (such as a warden) deliver an imprisoned individual to the court and show a valid reason for that person's detention.
Much war reporting on the front page, and inside, but it pales in comparison to the Lincoln document.
Eight pages, very nice condition.
