Washington Act of Congress on the front page... President's image not to be on the coins...

COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, April 7, 1792 Near half of the front page is taken up with an: "Act to Provide for the Settlement of the Claims of Widows and Orphans barred by the Limitations heretofore Established & to Regulate the Claims to Invalid Pensions" which is signed in script type by the President: Go. Washington, and in block type by John Adams and Th. Jefferson.
Page 2 has a fascinating report concerning: "The Mint Bill" with discussion noting that: "...A motion was made to strike out the clause directing the gold & silver coins to be impressed, on one side, with a representation of the head of the President of the United States..." which won in the vote, 26-22. Then: "The question was then taken on substituting an emblematick figure of LIBERTY which passed in the affirmative...The chief objection to having the coins marked with the head of the President, for the time being, was, that it favours too much of monarchy..." with more on the justification.
Four pages, archival strengthening at the slightly irregular spine, a few other very discrete archival mends inside, nice condition.
