Formally creating the Territory of Washington...

Item # 685771

March 08, 1853

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., March 8, 1853

* Creation of Washington Territory
* United States Congress passes

Being the "mouthpiece of the federal government", typically this newspaper was the first to report notable political reports and developments So it is no surprise that nearly half of the front page is taken up with the Act of Congress creating the Washington Territory.
Headed: "Laws OF The United States - An ACT to Establish the Territorial Government of Washington" the full text is provided & notes that it was "Approved, March 2, 1853". Initially it was to be called the Territory of Columbia, but due to presumed confusion with the District of Columbia it was named the Territory of Washington in honor of the first president.
Three more Acts of Congress follow, one to authorizing the organization of the town of Chelsea, Massachusetts.
Four pages, some binding indents at the blank spine, nice condition.
